Falmouth Little League

Falmouth, Maine

Field Conditions

2011 Juniors Baseball

Options in Falmouth for 13-15 Year Old  Baseball:

Babe Ruth, Junior Baseball, and Falmouth Schools (High School and Middle School) teams are generally exclusive to Falmouth residents.   Middle school and high school baseball programs will be administered by the school.  If there are AAU teams, they likely won’t be “Falmouth Only” and would consist of players from other towns.

Baseball Options for Falmouth 13-15 Year Olds considering Babe Ruth and Junior Baseball:

  • Falmouth Junior Baseball, which is part of the Little League program, is for ages 13-14.  Last year there were two teams.
  • Falmouth Babe Ruth is for ages 13-15.  Last year there was one team of 13-year-olds, and one team of 14 to 15-year-olds.  For 2011, there will likely be two teams comprised of players age 13-15 and will not be a team of age 13 only.

Guidance for Players to choose between Junior Baseball and Babe Ruth:

  • Strong 13 and 14-year-olds should play Babe Ruth, as it is a higher level of competition than Junior Baseball.  Games will be against other Cumberland County teams.  They will be on the big field and pitching speeds will generally be in the 55-75 mph range.
  • Less advanced 13-14 year old players will likely find Junior Baseball to be a better experience.  The pace of play and speed of the game is a notch down from Babe Ruth.  Pitching speeds are usually in the 45 – 60 mph range.

  • There may be tryouts and cuts for Babe Ruth to have two teams of a manageable size.
  • There will not be tryouts and/or cuts for Junior Baseball.  All who sign up will be on a team.
  • As far as overlap, the school programs usually start first, followed by Junior Baseball (mid-April to early/mid-June).  Babe Ruth usually runs from around May 1st to mid-July.  It is not advisable for any player to try to participate in all 3 (school, Junior Baseball and Babe Ruth) and it is not advisable to participate in both Junior Baseball and Babe Ruth because there will be schedule conflicts that will impair the ability to field a team, resulting in forfeits.
